Ananta Shesha

On the ocean of milk, between the dissolution of one universe and the emanation of the next, Vishnu sleeps — cradled on the coils of Ananta Shesha, the thousand-headed cosmic serpent. Ananta means endless; Shesha, the remainder: what is left when everything else dissolves. Reality rests on a sleeping god resting on an endless serpent. The deepest bed in the cosmos is a dragon — and the pause between worlds is not emptiness but supported rest.
